Slap Back Joe is back with “Neverland”, the band’s third album and a new step into an even clearer expression of smoky Texas blues and blues rock. With eleven tracks, a new lineup and a more cohesive approach, the band presents a release that both leans into the roots of the blues and pushes the sound forward.

Music Created Together

Since forming in 2020, Slap Back Joe has built its own musical universe, where classic blues meets a heavier, more melodic and contemporary approach. Following their debut album System Breakdown and its follow-up Singing My Blues Away, the band continues to develop and deepen its sound while maintaining the raw presence that has become one of its trademarks. At the heart of the process is a collective drive, with bandleader, songwriter, producer and guitarist Raimo Rommedahl drawing on ideas from the entire band. This has given the songs greater depth, more dynamics, and a stronger sense of collective creativity.

Stories from Neverland

The album’s eleven tracks move between hunger, resistance, darkness, self-reflection and a longing for freedom. There is the forward-driving energy of “Ring the Bell”, the political edge of “The Man on the Golden Throne”, the fractured inner drama of “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde”, and the dreamlike title track “Neverland”, where farewell, vulnerability and hope drift side by side. Neverland captures a band that sounds confident, alive and deeply in sync.

A Creative Journey

The recording of Neverland is described by the band as a creative and enjoyable period filled with experimentation, something that can be felt in the material’s movement and natural flow. The strongest studio memory from the recording came when the band spent a long time trying to track down a problem, only to discover that the guitar cable had never even been plugged in. Moments like these have become part of the journey – where experience and the joy of playing go hand in hand. As Slap Back Joe’s third album, Neverland gives the band greater confidence and experience behind every decision. With a new lineup in place, they are now looking ahead with renewed confidence, greater joy in playing, and an even stronger belief in where the music can take them.
