Dolby Atmos Workshop at IMRSV in Stockholm
On April 20–21, 2026, we conducted a two-day Dolby Atmos workshop at IMRSV in Stockholm together with Fryshuset Folk High School and the AMPS (Advanced Music Production and Songwriting) program. The assignment was carried out in collaboration with Dolby and brought together approximately 25–30 participants over two intensive days. The weekend concluded with a panel discussion during Stockholm Music Week, where Filip Killander from KMR participated alongside representatives from Dolby and the educational program. Day One – Introduction and Exploration
The first day began with a brief introduction from Dolby, providing an overall understanding of the format. Filip Killander and Roger Baltensperger from Switzerland then took over, guiding participants into the practical work of using Dolby Atmos in a production environment.
The early focus was on listening and developing an understanding of immersive audio, where participants analyzed and compared different mixes. Filip Killander worked closely with the participants during the initial exercises to help them become familiar with the tools and understand the fundamentals without getting stuck on technical obstacles.
After the introduction, participants quickly began working independently on their own projects, with the guidance focused on supporting the creative process and maintaining momentum rather than directing the outcome.
Day Two – Advanced Techniques and Creative Development
The second day focused more on independent work and deeper exploration. Filip Killander and Roger Baltensperger moved between the groups, pausing occasionally for shared demonstrations of specific techniques that are important when beginning to work with Dolby Atmos.
Topics included how to work with spatial reverbs, how the LFE channel can be used in a controlled manner, and how to build balance within a three-dimensional sound field. These sessions provided practical tools that participants could immediately apply to their own projects.
The day concluded with a group listening session where all participants presented their mixes and received feedback. Filip Killander played an active role in the discussions surrounding the different results, creating an opportunity for many creative decisions to be highlighted and discussed openly.
Panel Discussion During Stockholm Music Week
The weekend concluded with a panel discussion as part of Stockholm Music Week. Filip Killander from KMR participated alongside Boris from Dolby, a teacher from Fryshuset, and one of the participants from the AMPS program.
The discussion focused on how Dolby Atmos is used in practice, why the format is becoming increasingly important in music production, and how educational programs can adapt to new technological demands. The conversation tied the weekend together and provided a broader perspective on how technology, education, and industry development are interconnected.
