“Next Generation of Audio” – KMR Studios at SOM’s 50th Anniversary
When SOM (Swedish Independent Music Producers) celebrated its 50th anniversary at Södra Teatern in Stockholm, it became clear that the future of music is both technical and artistic. KMR Studios was represented by its CEO Filip Killander, who participated in a panel discussion about Dolby Atmos, innovation, and the future of independent music alongside industry professionals and technology experts. KMR’s pioneering work with immersive sound had a natural place in the anniversary program.
With Dolby Atmos in Focus
During SOM’s 50th anniversary, with the theme “The Future of Independent Labels,” the audience attended a highly relevant seminar on “Next Generation of Audio.” One of the two invited speakers on the panel was Filip Killander, CEO and founder of KMR Studios – one of Sweden’s first Dolby Atmos-certified music studios. In conversation with moderator Mats Hammerman (SOM) and Per Sjösten from Footprint Records, the panel highlighted how the future audio format Dolby Atmos is transforming both music production and consumption.
Filip emphasized that sound is no longer confined to left and right channels, but can be portrayed spatially to create more presence and emotional impact – something especially important for independent music creators who want full artistic expression and control over their music. Since KMR Studios was certified for Atmos in 2022, the studio has delivered over 200 Atmos masters, making KMR one of the few labels in Sweden with a catalog entirely dedicated to this format.
The discussion concluded with a clear message: Atmos is not just a technological advancement, it is a creative language. KMR’s work shows that even smaller companies with a clear vision and technical expertise can lead the way. The panel’s audience – consisting of industry professionals, creators, and producers – left with both inspiration and practical insights on how the format can be used in their own work.
