I Surrender

Niklas Bursell describes Dodgers’ Dive’s music as “Real Rock n’ Roll.” The new single “I Surrender” is no exception. “One of the most fun songs on the repertoire to perform live. Riffy, rowdy, and dynamic”, says Niklas. With these words, he paints a picture of a song that is not just about listening but about experiencing a musical explosion of energy and passion. This feeling is reinforced by the band’s strong stage presence and joy of playing, something that fans have already experienced at their concerts.

The inspiration for “I Surrender” came unexpectedly last summer when Niklas was walking on Vasagatan. “Suddenly she meets my gaze, smiles, and says hello. Then she just walks on”, Niklas recounts. This short but intense encounter set off a creative process. “I just stand there like a fool and follow her with my gaze”, he says. This mysterious woman became a muse that inspired not only the lyrics but the entire feeling of the song. A few days later, he saw her again, this time working in a bar, and the feeling of fascination and inspiration was complete. It is these spontaneous and unexpected encounters that often birth the most genuine and powerful music.

One of the highlights during the creation of “I Surrender” was the collaboration between band members and their spontaneity. “Caroline’s lap steel triggered a feeling of wailing”, Niklas recounts. Nova, one of the backing vocalists, tried it out and it was a success. “It’s fun with this kind of impulses sometimes. And then there’s Crille, of course…” says Niklas with a smile. This feeling of community and creative flow is the core of Dodgers’ Dive and something that is clearly reflected in “I Surrender.” The band looks forward to hearing the audience’s reactions and hopes that their joy of playing will be contagious to listeners.
