The progress and inspiration behind the song

The process of creating the song started when one half of the duo, Dick, five months ago, was playing his guitar when he suddenly came up with the melody of the song. It was then that he began creating the music itself and the various instrumental elements that make up the beautiful sound. The duo’s singer, Ingbritt, then started writing the lyrics and the melody of the song, and slowly but surely, the song took its form.

The song’s lyrics speak about us humans in our contemporary existence, Ingbritt explains the theme of the song: “The inspiration for the lyrics comes from both how dark the world looks today, and that we all humans have both big and small dreams that are not always fulfilled.” The message in the song can therefore be seen as a reminder of how fragile we are as humans, and how our ambitions don’t always meet reality in the way we want.

Behind the music

The sound from DBI and their previous songs is something that is clearly noticeable even in ‘Angel By My Side’, and it becomes a stylish sequel to what we’ve heard before. Dick, the duo’s talented musician, has created the sound of the song on his hand-built David Sundberg guitar with sweeping extra tones in the chords. DBI themselves think that “the extra tones and the guitar’s unique sound give the song a slightly different and pleasant sound to listen to.”

DBI describes how one of the challenges in creating ‘Angel By My Side’ was that Dick handled both production and mixing, which required a great deal of sensitivity. However, this was also something that at the same time allowed for a personal and tailored sound. In other words, the song is a craft that is a blend of the duo’s different musical skills, and they themselves are also satisfied with the overall song.

When all the instruments including the vocals were recorded and the mixing was done, they both got a wonderful feeling of having succeeded in creating the song they had envisioned. Now DBI looks forward to the release with a mixture of excitement and nervousness: “It’s always fun to release a new song. Then you don’t know how it will go, but you can always hope for the best.”
