Don’t Fall for the Temptation

If you Google “pay for Spotify followers” or “pay for streams,” you’ll come across some advertisements promising to take your music career to new heights. Of course, it sounds very tempting and like an easy solution. However, it’s not that simple.

Sure, it may be tempting to gain hundreds of more “listeners” and buying streams can provide that. But here’s the thing – it can do that, but it doesn’t mean it will. Moreover, the listeners you get won’t be genuine listeners, which can actually cause problems for you. According to an article from DiGital, Sosa Entertainment sued Spotify for billions of dollars over allegations that Spotify claimed their streams were fake. As a result, Spotify removed their songs from the platform and didn’t pay for the previously played music.[1] So, your streams may even disappear if Spotify deems them to be inauthentic.

If we look at it from another perspective, it’s like someone saying to you, “I’ll pay you $100 to be my friend.” Does it feel like a genuine friendship? Would you do that yourself? Probably not. Also, ask yourself if that’s how you want to build your fanbase. Do you want attention from fake streams and fake fans, or do you want genuine streams and followers who truly appreciate your music and want to support you in the long run?

Tips on What You Can Do Instead

It may feel like it takes a long time to get discovered and that it’s a difficult path, which it can be. However, we can provide you with some tips on what you can do to build a fanbase instead of paying for streams:

  1. Gig, gig, gig! Go out into the world and perform at bars, clubs, or wherever you like. But get out there and stand in front of people who could become your next fans. If they see you “in action,” there’s a greater chance they’ll listen to your music.
  2. Believe in the saying, “patience is a virtue.” It will happen if you put in the effort, persevere, and have patience.
  3. Believe in the other saying, “quality over quantity.” Focus on creating high-quality music that you can stand behind for a long time. Be creative and be yourself; that will take you far!
  4. Social media! Whether you like social media or not, it’s something to consider if you want to build a fanbase. It’s where you can connect with your fans, announce your upcoming performances, share news about upcoming releases, and more.
