Promoting your release – give your release the best chances!
When you release music, you naturally want as many people as possible to hear it. Therefore, it’s important that you are promoting your release properly, both before and after the release day. Here, we have listed 10 things you can do to give your music the best chances of reaching the right listeners. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or if you need help with this!
1. Update your social media
Make sure your social media accounts are up to date. About 2-3 weeks before the song is released, it is time to start posting regularly about you releasing new music. Take the opportunity to talk about the song – what it’s about, how you wrote it, etc.
2. Create a countdown on Instagram Stories
Use the countdown feature on Instagram Stories. Set it up about a week before the release day to build up excitement.
3. Use HyperFollow
If you use DistroKid to upload your music to streaming services, you can also use the service HyperFollow. With this service, people can pre-save your music on Spotify, meaning they can save it before it’s released. Share, distribute, and inform people about your HyperFollow page. If you have released music before, remind all your friends to start following you on Spotify.
4. Create a teaser
If you’re good at working with video material, you can create a teaser that includes a snippet of the song in a short video clip. You can also use ready-made videos for free from Pexels. Share the video on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to build anticipation for the release.
5. Share your music everywhere
Make sure to share the song on all your platforms when it’s released. Contact family and friends and ask if they want to listen to your song. Moreover, you can also mention that they are more than welcome to share the song if they like it.
6. Share the song as a Story via Spotify
Also, make sure to share the song as a Story on Instagram via Spotify. This way, your followers can click directly from Instagram to Spotify. After doing that, you can save the Story as a highlight in your profile. You can find more similar tips in our guide on Spotify marketing.
7. Schedule posts
If you have an artist page on Facebook, you can schedule posts on both Facebook and Instagram simultaneously. This is a great trick for posting regularly both before and after the release.
8. Use SubmitHub
Create an account on SubmitHub. Here, you can pitch your song directly to bloggers, curators, and influencers. It costs as little as 30 SEK per pitch. It’s well worth the investment! Read more in our guide on SubmitHub.
9. Start a paid campaign
Start a paid campaign on Facebook or Instagram for the release. You can do this yourself, but we recommend seeking help from a PR agency if your budget exceeds 1,000 SEK.
10. Keep marketing
Continue reminding your followers about the release even after the release day. Post-release marketing is just as important as any other form of marketing.
Good luck!
