About the release
On the 15th of July Filip Killander releases the highly anticipated single “Fireworks”. A genre-bending song that tells us a story about depression through words, unique sounds and an exciting arrangement. The lyrics explore and explain how it is to feel alone in a room filled with people who like you. The music conveys the experience of depression – the repetitive, yet chaotic, feeling that everything is slowly slipping away.
“Everyone’s experience of depression is of course vastly different“, says Filip. “But I strongly felt like I needed to explore my own relationship with those feelings. And I don’t know any better way to do that than putting them in a song. This is by far the most personal I’ve ever been in a song. The process has been really liberating and surprisingly fun. I’m really looking forward to share the Dolby Atmos version of Fireworks. That’s really the definitive version of the song.”

What is Dolby Atmos?
Dolby Atmos is the future of audio! Today most of us listen in stereo, which means that the sound is coming from two sources (left and right). You may have heard about surrond/5.1 systems, where the sound can go around you like a circle. Dolby Atmos can do that as well, but what’s new is height! That means the sound can come from above you as well, which is awesome! This also translates pretty well into headphones (unlike 5.1), which means that you can enjoy Atmos mixes even if you don’t have an Atmos ready system at home!
To listen to the Dolby Atmos version of Fireworks, go to Apple Music or Tidal.
“The first time I got to listen to Fireworks I heard a song built on feelings of sadness, frustration and dejection, combined with a slight hint of hope. It’s a song with a deep message, which I think many people can relate to their own lives and experiences.”
– Jennifer Sällström, artist & songwriter
The songwriting behind Fireworks
The track is written by Filip Killander and Jennifer Sällström. Recorded, mixed and mastered at KMR Studios by Filip Killander.
Jennifer Sällström about the songwriting:
“Filip sent me the song, asking for feedback on the lyrics. We experimented by switching around words and formulations, in order to give the text a good flow and a clear message. Overall, the lyrics were already finished, but we managed to find a few areas where we could adjust the formulations and give the song even more depth.
The song has really evolved and is now richer with emotion, which makes it even easier to relate to. The lyrics are open for interpretation, something that invites the listener to relate the song to his or her own experiences of sadness or pain. Fireworks is authentic and real, and this realness is portrayed through the dynamics, lyrics and performance of the song.”
Songwriter lyrics: Filip Killander & Jennifer Sällström
“Every emotion that you can possibly feel, and it’s all in one song! Lyrics packed with relatable metaphors, and it all blends together so well with the profound sound of the piano and the exploding fireworks in the background. The song takes surprising and exciting turns along the way, and never fails to grab the attention of the listener. The production is so smooth and professional, but still broken in the most beautiful way.”
