"I draw inspiration from events in my own life, the people around me, and the world around me. When I get an idea for a song, I can't stop thinking about it until I've written it down. Music creation gives my life meaning in a way that few other things do."

Discovered music at an early age

For artist and songwriter Oliver Zach, music is something he has always been drawn to and has always been a part of his life. The love for music has been a natural part of his life since childhood. He describes how songwriting took off from the moment he, as a child, grasped his first pen and learned to write. As Oliver grew older, his lyrics and ability to write music developed, and over the years, he has already written hundreds of songs.

His earliest memory of music dates back to when he was around five or six years old, sitting and listening to his father play guitar and deciding to write lyrics and sing along. Even then, he knew music was something he wanted to pursue. From an early age, he started writing songs in English, just like his biggest musical idols — which, as it turned out, was not always easy for a 10-year-old without internet access.

"One strong early memory I have of music is sitting with English-Swedish dictionaries, trying to find the English translation for what I wanted to write about. Looking back, that didn't always result in lyrics that made a lot of sense."

Drawing inspiration from events and reflections from his everyday life, Oliver writes personal lyrics. His sound is unique and distinctive, characterized by catchy melodies and memorable lyrics. He himself listens to a lot to 60s and 70s music. Bands and artists like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Elton John, and Led Zeppelin are major influences and have helped shape the sound of his music.

The creative process

"It's fun to get an idea, get stuck on it, and then work on creating a song from it."

When Oliver writes music, he does it to express what he is feeling in the moment. It is not necessarily perfect or makes sense, but instead it comes from a place of what he feels and wants to say for himself. His inspiration comes from different places — sometimes from his own life, sometimes from other people’s lives, or simply from a thought in the moment.

"Creating music is, for me, sometimes a way to express myself and my emotions, both positive and negative. And sometimes you just want to sit with the guitar, and that leads to a song about pretty much anything simply because writing is fun."

For Oliver, making music is primarily something he does for himself — but he always enjoys hearing what people think about what he has created.

Ambitions for the future

The dream is to one day be able to make a living from music. Oliver loves creating and playing music, and it's something he has always dreamed of doing full-time. It's also important to him that his music has meaning for other people, to see that others appreciate and are moved by his music.

Since making his debut with the single Author of My Life in the spring of 2022, Oliver Zach has continued releasing singles, and now an EP is also on the way. At the end of May 2026, Oliver Zach will release his new EP Halfway To Heaven — a collection of songs that once again showcases Oliver’s incredible ability to transport listeners into his world.
